Weekend Getaway | Montauk
MONTAUK
Living in NYC, facing the hustle and bustle and everyday struggle just to get to work, cross the street or not get killed by a taxi is overwhelming. Montauk is a well deserved hike outside of the city. Unlike other more pretentious parts of the Hamptons, this is an old hippy beach town, filled with fresh food, wholesome activity, and most importantly sunshine!
Here beach cruisers are the new car, and shabby chic is the look of choice.
During my weekend getaway I stayed at the Montauk Beach House, an old once motel, converted into a shabby chic boutique hotel, with complementary breakfast and restoration hardware furnishings. It is one block from the beach, 5 minutes walk from soul cycle, has on site beach cruisers, a pool, and my personal favorite, the best bathtubs you can possibly ever imagine! Nothing says vacation like the perfect bath (coming from the girl who hates to shower).
Whether you are crawling back to your room from a blissful day at the beach or finding refuge in a rain storm, this tub is the perfect vessel for TLC.
The hotel is filled with modern art work and natural elements.
In the morning, they offer a complimentary breakfast bar including premium coffee and teas.
They have plant based and gluten free options including my personal favorite acai bowls and fresh fruit with granola and almond milk in their complimentary breakfast bar.
Georgica Beach
On the way to Montauk, you can stop off at Georgica beach, a quaint locals beach in East Hampton. They have private bathrooms and a shower with incredible water pressure to rinse off after a dip in the ocean. To my surprise, the water is actually pleasant enough to swim in on a warm day, unlike most California beaches.
Georgica beach, is also a pet friendly beach, as long as the pooches are leashed (or no one sees the frolicking beasts)
The Surf Lodge
The surf lodge, is another great place to stay in Montauk, or to just hang for they day. They offer stand-up paddle boarding and kaiaking, as well as a somer concert series.
I love getting away and going on vacation, but I always fear, I won't find places accommodating to my lifestyle. Jay Astafa, the vegan chef at "3 Brothers Vegan Cafe," was brought on to The Surf Lodge team to create plant based options on their farm to table menu. Not only did I not have to compromise, but I had options other than a basic salad to satisfy my taste buds.
The Menu: Cantaloupe gazpacho with eggplant bacon, Seaweed rice wrap, and a seasonal lettuce wrap.
Besides the food, The Surf Lodge has quite the view. Enjoy soaking in the sun, dipping in the water, or various outdoor activities they offer.
Soul Cycle
Vacations are fun, but they are more fun when you feel like you are still managing your healthy lifestyle. Montauk has a wonderful Soul Cycle studio which offers classes three times a day (8am, 9:30, and 10:30).
