Creating the Perfect Picnic
Picnics are the quintessential summer past time.
Here is how I make the perfect picnic.
1. The Host
As the host, it is your job to ensure the picnic has a variety of options, is aesthetically appealing, and most importantly is easy to put together. If something is too difficult or is more effort than outcome, it will not be as enjoyed. This picnic was whipped together in an hour. It can be taken almost anywhere and does not require much refrigeration.
A picnic is as much about the ambiance as it is about the food. The perfect sun hat can act as garnish to your picnic blanket, as well as protect your skin from sun damage.

2. The Set Up
The bag or basket- Although I love a good picnic basket, it is bulky, harder to store and carry. A good alternative for those with limited storage is a waterproof cooler bag. It is perfect for everyday grocery shopping, folds up easily to store, and aesthetically appealing enough for a picnic.

The best picnic blanket is one that is water proof. This makes the clean-up rather seamless and protects you from different environmental conditions, including wet grass. I use an outdoor square table cloth. They come in a variety of colors and patterns, giving the appearance of a blanket, without being absorbent.

Napkins are a great way to accessorize. They add color aesthetically and are a practical necessity.

The center piece is important but doesn't have to break the bank. This sunflower mason jar arrangement was bought for ten dollars and is small enough to carry with you on your adventures.

Food- Use raw, local, and seasonal ingredients. This will minimize your prep time and increase your flavors. Foods produced at the peak of their season are the fullest in flavor.
Seasoning- Always pack seasoning, as you never know when you can use a dash of pepper or a pinch of salt.
Lids can double as serving plates as well as storage container lids.

Don't forget to bring water. I prefer a glass bottle, as it has less carcinogens and adds an additional element to the picnic.
3. The Company
Glassware can easily upgrade the quality of your picnic. These are BPA-free plastic glassware that is easy to store and light enough to carry on the go.
