The Top 3 Healthiest Alcohols
Stop Whining and Get Wining
Alcohol dehydrates you and adds toxins into the body. That being said no two alcohols are the same, some have added benefits to negate the alcohol content, and others should be avoided at all costs. Learn how to pick your poison effectively.
When changing your lifestyle it is important to not limit yourself. If you feel like you are "missing" out on life and living in constant regret, embark on the 80/20 rule. 80 percent of the time you live in "perfect" health and 20 percent of the time you bend the rules and experience those things not optimal for ideal health.
The Top 3 Ways to Quench Your Thirst
Always drink your liquor neat (alone to be sipped), on the rocks (alone with a bed of ice), or skinny (typically with seltzer and citrus). Avoid simple syrups and mixed drinks. Although these can taste scrumptious, that moment on your lips forever on your hips, means more time in the gym trying to work off your guilty pleasures and less time enjoying peace and relaxation. Here are my top 3 healthiest liquors:
Raw Sake- Sake is a Japanese liquor made from fermented rice, and has digestive enzymes from the fermentation process of yeast and rice that aides digestion and health similar to a probiotic. One serving of sake (1fl oz) is 39 calories and contains around 18-20% alcohol.
Red Wine- A wine a day will keep the doctor away? Perhaps. Studies have shown that consuming one glass of red wine on a regular bases can have added health benefits because of the antioxidant resveratrol. Red wine contains between 0.2 and 5.8 mg/l varying on the type of grape. White wine does not contain such high levels as the skin on the red grape is antioxidant rich. Both white wines and red wines can be made with the same grape, the differentiating factor being the left skins on the grapes. Those same health benefits can also be achieved by eating deep purple foods i.e. blue berries and red grapes, but in high concentrations.
Fortunately wine is concentrated in antioxidants, but should still only be consumed in low doses (single glasses).
Tequila- Tequila makes her clothes fall off? Maybe for a Kenny Chesney song, but most definitely will help you look better naked unlike beer. Tequila is a distilled beverage made from the blue agave plant. The liquor is usually around 38% alcohol and is comprised of simple sugars making it easier for your body to digest and maintain your blood sugar levels in contrast to beer which contains complex sugars and can spike your BSL.
Tequila is a personal favorite of mine as I like to add lime, habanero juice, and a splash of seltzer to make an Ari Spicy Margarita, all the spice without the bite (calories).
